2 Hour Course

The 2 hour Introduction to sailing class is designed to be a fun class to introduce newcomers to sailing. This class is also the prerequisite for the ASA 101 Basic Keelboat Sailing Class.

ASA 101 Basic Keelboat Sailing

3 or 4 Day Course

Three to four day course designed to train students to proficiently sail on a 30 foot keelboat in light to moderate sea and wind conditions. This class goes over and tests students in the following:

  • Sail theory
  • Acting as competent skipper and crew
  • Important knots
  • Parts of a sailboat
  • Points of sail
  • Maneuvers: tacking, jibing, heaving to, reefing, man overboard
 

Day 1 and 2 – Practice and lectures

Day 3 and 4 – Additional instruction, written test, skills test, and certification awards

ASA 103 Basic Coastal Cruising

3 or 4 Day Course

Two to three day course designed to introduce students to the basics of coastal cruising. This class takes place on a 30 ft hunter 30T where you will learn and test on the following:

  • Basic navigation and chart reading
  • Anchoring
  • Parts of a sailboat
  • Sail trim
  • Proper use of an inboard diesel engine
  • AC and DC systems
  • Maneuvers: tacking, jibing, heaving to, reefing, man overboard

Day 1 and 2 – Practice and lectures

Day 3 and 4 – Additional instruction, written test, skills test, and certification awards

3 Day 2 Night Sailing Course

Advanced class for serious sailors looking to test the cut of their sails and show what they’re made of! Designed for students to skipper and crew a sailing vessel about 50 feet in length in coastal and inland waters, in any conditions.

Day 1  – Preparation, Provisioning, and Lecture

Day 2 – Departure from Monterey

Day 3 – Arrive in San Francisco or Morro Bay. Written Test

Day 4 – Sail back to Monterey
